Military University of Technology (MUT) is a state military technical school at university level existing since 1951. As a state university it is controlled by Ministry of Defense (MoD) and educates students, and conducts scientific research as well. According to The Bologna declaration within a European higher education space, The University offers full-time bachelor studies (undergraduate studies), master's studies and doctoral degrees studies (postgraduate studies) as well as postgraduate (post-diploma) courses, language and other specialist courses.
The University teaches both civilian and military students. Civilian graduates do not have any obligations to work for the armed forces. They can graduate from the university as engineers, bachelors, MSc's and are prepared to gain a PhD degree. Military graduates receive the degree of MSc engineer and are promoted to the rank of 2nd lieutenant.
For all education level MUT offers more than 51 specialties in 13 fields of studies. Day courses are free of charge whereas extramural courses are fee-paying. The number of students accepted for specific courses is approved by the Rector of University before each academic year. The University is proud of its academic personnel consisting of 80 university professors, 80 university teachers with post - doctoral degrees, and 246 doctors (PhDs). Their number guarantees fulfillment of legal requirements for conducting various academic courses and granting academic degrees of PhD, post - doctoral degrees in chosen scientific disciplines. The total number of university teachers working for MUT is approximately 700, including 140 professional solders.
The University conducts scientific research, development and modernizing work within sciences and military branches. Numerous inventions and patents as well as important awards (both Polish and foreign ) result from the university's work. The first Polish laser and one of the first computers were designed by MUT's employees. According to rankings and regularly run surveys, the graduates of MUT (so far about 45 000 students graduated from MUT) are highly valued by Polish and foreign employers. They are offered various posts in many economic and industrial branches both in private and state firms. Military graduates constitute the majority of commissioned officers of the Polish Armed Forces.
MUT is attractively located in the capital, which makes for the university's unique atmosphere. It is situated close to Kampinos Forest, in the green, ecologically friendly part of the Bemowo district. Students are free to use university campus consisting of academic buildings, research buildings, dormitories, sports recreational centers, an academic hotel, students club, library, bookshop, the cinema, football fields, courts and gyms as well as restaurants and bars.

- In 1963 the team of the Military University of Technology (MUT), under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Prof. Zbigniew Puziewicz and the future MUT commanding officer Major-General Prof. Sylwester Kaliski, was the first in Poland to obtain laser radiation generation from a He-Ne laser and activate the first permanent laser in Poland. Currently MUT takes part in the research and development of the Government Strategic Project "The Blue Optoelectronics Development".

Within this area, there are all educational and research buildings, a library with reading rooms, dormitories, an academic hotel, a library, students' club, the cinema, restaurants, bars, canteens, billiards' club, shops, banks, and a post office.
