Warsaw School Of Social Sciences And Humanites (SWPS)

Warsaw School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SWPS) was established in 1996.
At present, there are more than 11 000 students of six faculties: psychology, philology, law, humanities & social sciences, and two branch-campuses faculties in Sopot and Wroclaw. SWPS now hosts 87 foreign students, 30 of them - participants of EP.
SWPS is authorized to grant PhD and habilitation (DSc) degrees in psychology and PhD degrees in cultural studies. The SWPS psychology programme was the first (and so far the only) such programme in Poland to receive a mark of distinction from the National Accreditation Committee (PKA - an independent body whose aim is to ensure the highest standards of education at Polish higher education institutions). The Committee has also confirmed the quality of the SWPS sociology and cultural studies programmes.
SWPS is a member of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Academic Schools (KRASP), the European University Association, the European Consortium for Political Research, and is a signatory of the Magna Charta Universitatum.
Our college consistently ranks high in classifications of higher education institutions in Poland prepared by authoritative media sources, being a five-time winner of Wprost magazine's top prize for academic excellence. The college has also gained excellent reviews from students and external bodies, winning the "Reliable School" and "Student-Friendly College" awards.

Programmes of study in English

English Studies. Undergraduate studies: the undergraduate BA programme covers 6 semesters, either full-time studies or a weekend (extramural) timetable. Postgraduate studies: the postgraduate MA programme covers 4 semesters, either full-time studies or a weekend (extramural) timetable.

English Studies at SWPS provides broad education in a variety of subjects. This includes:
- expert and high-level schooling in English as well as an additional foreign language (French, German, Spanish, Swedish, Arabic, Chinese or Italian)
- theoretical linguistics, translation studies, literary studies and cultural studies
- advanced knowledge of the cultural and literary history of Britain and the United States
- professional knowledge of TEFL theory and teaching methodology
- professional preparation for English-Polish and Polish-English translation and interpreting.

In addition, students acquire practical knowledge and skills extending beyond the traditional philological curriculum, in areas such as business studies, international studies, communication in the work environment, and translating EU documents.

Psychology. One-tier degree programme covers 10 semesters of full-time studies. The modern world speaks English, and the ultimate key to understanding that world is offered by psychology.
